A First Person Meditation Through Wayne Dyer's "Power of Intention"
Introduction:
I found this book, "The Power of Intention" by Wayne Dyer because my father recommended I read it. He recommends I read a lot of books. Needless to say, I don’t always take his advice because he’s my dad and I’m smarter than him. Still rebelling after all these years! However something pulled me towards this particular book. I wasn’t familiar with Wayne Dyer and I only knew that this title seemed interesting to me. This was my first real exposure to ideas like the Law of Attraction and being in sales I was immediately able to allow the Power of Intention to hone my skills as a sales person and take my routine job out of the ordinary and into something extra ordinary. I was also led to a wonderful quote which blossomed into a whole new paradigm of thinking for me. “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” I was also introduced to Dan Millman by Wayne Dyer. I have their books stacked together and within arm reach most of my waking hours and even the slumberous part of the day.
Personal development, self help, and all of that jargon became meaningless to me. And it still is… the jargon, I mean. It is simply of way to mask the reality of the situation. What situation? Your relationship with God. Keep in mind, I’m not writing about the old guy with the beard, I’m writing about God. Dr. Dyer wrote about God, writes about God, and is a God centered being. The Power of Intention is God. God speaks to us in many ways, signs and languages. God has many names and at least seven faces. The Power of Intention is a study of God and the relationship between God and man. It is a lesson in allowing God to flow into and through your life. It is truly something you must allow. Our homo-sapient bodies don’t understand God. Our body just lives and reacts to its environment. It’s natural, innocent and pure. It is our soul that bridges the gap between stimulus and response and it is our earthly challenge to exalt this wonderful God like image to immolate true creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity. Our life and time on this planet is a gift and the best ways to thank the maker is to live it fully and recognize daily our connection to something greater and far more powerful.
As I struggle to bridge the gap between me and God and keep my appointment with infinity, I looked for a way to make these new ideas my own. By that I mean taking mental ownership of these concepts. One way is to state the thing you want as if it already exists. For me it often sounds like this, “I am so grateful that it is 6 pm and I’ve already made a sale today.” I usually start that mantra on my way to work at about 8:30 in the morning. When I first got into sales I developed this one, “I am a strong, confident, capable, deserving and rich man who is full of life, love, vigor and inspiration.” Any time I felt contrary to that, I would repeat it until I had those feelings back. The reality is I am all of those things regardless of whether or not I believe it. There’s an old statement, “Fake it till you make it.” Rather simple advice and it can sound a little negative, but it gets the point across. I would rather say, “You’ve already made it, take a look around.”
I started the Power of Intention on CD. I would listen in my car on the way to work. It was about a twelve to thirty minute drive depending on traffic. So often I’d hear something that I didn’t want to forget so I’d put it in my Notepad on my Palm Pilot. Then I organized the notes so that if I wasn’t near the CDs I could have my Power of Intention quick reference guide. My Palm held so many notes for me. Anytime I needed to review something it would be there. I started to focus on putting Intention to work in my daily life. From one piece of dialog to a whole chapter, I would take a daily, hard look at Intention. At the end of each chapter and section, Dr. Dyer placed steps and ways to implement the intention of each chapter, potent thought and idea.
My gift to you will be to take the notes from my Palm, made up mostly of the steps I just mentioned, translated into the first person and arrange them into a journal of Hubs for your journey into making Intention (God) your reality. These daily affirmations have been my companion on the road to Intention and one more way to live in the now with Intention. Before each Intention, I’ll make a little commentary to set the mood. Read one a day. They’re not very long. Once they're all posted, read them in order or mix it up. Read it backwards. Close your eyes and move the mouse around until you decide to stop and let Intention guide your reading. It doesn’t matter how you read it, all that matters is that you gain something you didn’t have or strengthen something that’s already growing.
Enjoy....

PS…
It’s been a few days since I finished my first draft. So, I’m sitting down on a Sunday morning to polish it up a bit. Last night before going to bed I felt the need to download some music on to my computer. I picked four CD’s and placed them on the tower to remind me to download them in the morning. Which I did. One of the CD’s I chose and decided to listen to while I write this morning is a CD I hardly listen to. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I put it on. But it felt like the right choice this morning. What was it? The CD is called “Migration ” by Peter Kater and R. Carlos Nakai.
As I looked at the song titles I noticed track number one was called “Wandering: Gathering One’s Tools .” Interesting, I thought. Track Two, “Initiation: Preparing oneself. Purifying, Centering .” Hmmmm, I said. I wondered why I’d never paid any attention to the titles before. Track three, “Honoring: Recognizing the ‘Sacred’ in One’s Life ” Wow, I said, looks like I picked the right CD this morning! Track number 4, “STATING INTENTION: Realizing and acknowledging one’s Purpose. ” Holy Smoke! I thought. This is definitely the right CD this morning. These moments are like sign posts on the road of Intention. Like Déjà vu, they are little markers to let you know you’re going in the right direction and your connection to Intention is there. Check out the rest of the song titles and see if you become as amazed as me that I stumbled on this particular CD on this particular day.
Track number 5, “Surrender: Letting go of control, allowing vulnerability, leaving what is known. ”
Track number six, “Embracing the Darkness: Walking into the Unknown. Being in the Void .”
Track number seven, “Lighting the Flame: Conscious Connection with Spirit, Finding Meaningful Ritual .”
Track number eight, “Transformation: Climbing the Mystic Spiral to a Vision of Oneness: the Vision that Alters All Perceptions .”
Track number nine, “Quietude: Listening, Observing, Being Still .”
Track number ten, “Becoming Human: Empathy, Being in Truly Responsible Relationship .”
Track eleven, “Walking the Path: Integrating Life Experience, Teaching by being. ”
And finally track twelve, “Service: Transcendence of the illusion of Separateness. Humility. Joy .”
Well if that don’t let you know there are no accidents or as Dan Millman so eloquently put it, “There are no ordinary moments” then I don’t know what will. I bought this CD back in 1993 or there abouts and it’s amazing that it took about 16 years for the lessons to come to light, but it did and over the years, when I’ve seen this CD among my extensive collection, I would often wonder why I bought it and what it was for… well, now I know…

Wow! Reading your blog changed my entire evening. I often forget that God is intention. I get caught up in the narcissistic notion of the power of MY intention and so probably do not let go of control enoough to really benefit form Intention being in my life and I realize God is in my life whether I am cooperative or not!! So thanks just for that, for making my evening a new start. Looking forward to reading a blog a day.
